The hardest part of moving abroad is rarely the paperwork. It is the first six months of not knowing anyone. These listings are free, they will always be free, and we will decline payment for one.
Not charity — integrity. A directory where everything visible has been paid for is a directory whose recommendations are worth nothing. Keeping a whole category permanently unpaid is the clearest way to show that the paid listings are labelled honestly too.
Community listings carry no paid-placement disclosure, because there is no payment to disclose. They also carry no verification claim: we confirm a group exists and meets, and we say nothing about anything else.
That is accurate rather than modest. We will not populate this page with groups scraped from elsewhere, because a congregation that has not asked to be listed has not consented to it, and a group that has folded is worse than no listing at all. So it stays empty until real groups ask.
You need this today, not whenever this page fills up. These are the routes that actually work, and none of them involve us.
The advice nobody gives you: join something with a fixed weekly time before you have unpacked. A commitment that recurs beats an intention that does not, and the group matters less than the recurrence. A bad choir on Thursdays will do more for you than a perfect one you never get round to.
Use the same application form and pick Community or faith group as the category — it drops the registration fields and the payment, and asks only what we actually need: the name, where and when you meet, a contact, and confirmation that you are open to newcomers.
We will list a group where someone involved in it asks us to. We will not list one on the strength of a third party mentioning it, and we will remove any listing on request from the group, immediately and without argument.
